Coronectomy of mandibular third molars: a systematic literature review and case studies
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Extraction of mandibular third molars (M3M) close to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) has a higher risk neurological disturbance. This review aims evaluate evidence supporting use coronectomy technique compared complete extraction for such M3Ms. Case studies by specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon are included illustrate clinical practice. Methods Three databases (Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed) were searched (November 2020). Additional articles sought hand searching reference list articles. All published in English comparing outcomes with at least 50 subjects 6 months follow-up included. Results Of six studies, five reported lower rate IAN disturbance after extraction. There no cases lingual Other as pain, infection, osteitis either similar or high rates root migration but low exposure reoperation. Follow-up protocols varied considerably. Conclusions is medium quality support option M3M cases. Further develop assist general dental practice warranted.

Coronectomy of impacted mandibular third molars: A meta-analysis and systematic review of the literature
BACKGROUND Coronectomy is an alternative to complete removal of an impacted mandibular third molar. Most authors have recommended coronectomy to prevent damage to the inferior alveolar nerve during surgical extraction of lower third molars. The present study offers a systematic review and metaanalysis of the coronectomy technique. MATERIAL AND METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis was...
متن کاملCoronectomy as a surgical approach to impacted mandibular third molars: a systematic review
The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the surgical technique of coronectomy for third molars extraction in close proximity with the inferior alveolar nerve.A literature survey carried out through PubMed, SCOPUS and the Cochrane Library from inceptions to the last access in January 31, 2014, was performed to intercept randomised clinical trials, controll...
متن کاملMandibular angle fracture following closed extraction of lower third molar: A case report and systematic review
Objectives Mandibular third molar extraction is among the most commonly performed dental procedures. Fracture of the angle of mandible after third molar extraction is a rare complication of this procedure. Case Herein, we report fracture of the right angle of mandible immediately after extraction of mandibular right third molar in a 38-year old healthy female patient, which was surgically mana...
متن کاملUpdate on coronectomy. A safer way to remove high risk mandibular third molars.
UNLABELLED Decoronation of high risk mandibular third molars (M3Ms) has become common practice in parts of UK and USA. With the introduction of Cone Beam CT scanning, there has been an evolution in the practice, with avoidance of unnecessary coronectomies based on CBCT findings. Also, additional anatomical features found only on CBCTs have introduced possible additional indications to undertake...
متن کاملClinical evaluations of coronectomy (intentional partial odontectomy) for mandibular third molars using dental computed tomography: a case-control study.
PURPOSE Studies have suggested that coronectomy reduces the risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury (IANI) when a close relationship with the inferior alveolar canal is indicated on panoramic imaging. However, the relationship between the inferior alveolar canal and the root are unclear on panoramic imaging. Our aim was to compare coronectomy with traditional extraction for the treatment of mand...
